In a recorded Zoom session, Bön Buddhist teacher Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche introduces a new Secret Refuge Prayer to students worldwide, explaining the prayer’s meaning and guiding a short, experiential meditation. In his teaching, Rinpoche presents the idea of inner or secret refuge — a deep, trustworthy connection to our own essence, awareness, and their inseparable union — as a transformative way to meet fear, ignorance, expectations, disappointment, and conflict in everyday life and in the wider world. He explains how most of our suffering comes from not truly knowing who we are beyond our stories and pain, and shows how returning again and again to this inner refuge can dissolve anxiety, soften relationships, and protect us from repeating cycles of hurt and conflict, offering viewers a direct taste of a boundless, compassionate perspective even amid illness, aging, personal drama, and global wars.

Prayer of Secret Refuge
I take refuge in the vast sky of being.
I take refuge in awareness, clear light.
I take refuge in the union of being and awareness.
From this union, may compassion spontaneously arise.
May all obstacles be cleared in service to others,
And in service to others, may I come home.

The Zoom session featured simultaneous interpretation in at least nine languages — Dutch, Finnish, German, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. A French translation will also be made available.
