About the Presenters

 

Geshe Lobsang Monlam, Ph.D., is a monk and scholar who has dedicated his life to integrating Tibetan knowledge into the digital world. Born in Amdo Ngaba, Tibet, he became a young monk at Trosig Monastery after completing primary school, and achieved his geshe degree in 2013 at Sera Mey Thoesam Norling Monastic Institute, India. A passion for computers and gadgetry led him to create a Tibetan computer font and software applications and to establish Monlam IT Research Centre in Dharamsala, India, under the guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. His fonts, software, and apps are used by millions and are all distributed for free. Geshe Monlam’s commitment to integrating Tibetan knowledge into the digital world is acknowledged by prominent religious leaders and by academic and science institutions worldwide. Jhama Lhamo (host), currently a resident student at Long Island University, Brooklyn, is pursuing a master’s degree in public health and biomedical sciences in New York. She completed her high school education at the Tibetan Children’s Village School in Bangalore, South India, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Shoolini University in Himachal Pradesh, India. Additionally, she produced a short documentary film last year spotlighting the Bodhisattvas in Action (BIA) Institute, a non-governmental organization situated in Gokarneshwar, Nepal.
