Join us for an insightful online dialogue with Dr. Tenzin Yeshi, a Tibetan-born physician specializing in general medicine and immunology. Hosted by Jhama Lhamo, this live event will explore the pressing issue of infectious diseases, with a focus on their global rise and particularly their impact on the Tibetan community. Dr. Yeshi and Jhama Lhamo will share valuable insights on awareness and prevention strategies for diseases such as hepatitis, HIV, tuberculosis, and STDs.

In addition to discussing public health concerns, Dr. Yeshi will offer a personal perspective on his journey to becoming a scientist. He’ll share the challenges he faced growing up in Tibet and his experiences in the medical field, providing inspiration for aspiring health care professionals.

About the Presenters

 

Tenzin Yeshi, M.D., received his M.D. from S. Tentishev Asian Medical Institute in the Kyrgyz Republic and has further certifications from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Yeshi currently works as a lab scientist at the New York Fertility Clinic and as an IMG doctor at Dr. Iqbal Pervaiz Medical and Pulmonary Clinic in Brooklyn, N.Y. Dr. Yeshi has deep roots in Tibetan culture, having studied Tibetan medicine and Buddhist science at Sebo Monastic University in Tibet. Over the course of his career he has completed internships at several hospitals in India and has advocated for community health care. His numerous awards include “Best Young Scientist 2022” for his contributions to research. He is involved in community service and leadership roles within various organizations, and is fluent in multiple languages, including Tibetan, English, and Russian.

 

Jhama Lhamo (host), currently a resident student at Long Island University, Brooklyn, is pursuing a master’s degree in public health and biomedical sciences in New York. She completed her high school education at the Tibetan Children’s Village School in Bangalore, South India, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Shoolini University in Himachal Pradesh, India. Additionally, she produced a short documentary film last year spotlighting the Bodhisattvas in Action (BIA) Institute, a non-governmental organization situated in Gokarneshwar, Nepal.
