About the Presenters

 

Matteo Pistono, writer and teacher of meditation and conscious breathing, embarked on his spiritual journey more than 30 years ago while living in Nepal and Tibet. Matteo holds a master’s degree in Indian philosophy from the University of London. Informed by his study of Buddhism, Vedanta, and Hatha yoga as well as extensive periods of solitary meditation and pilgrimages across sacred Himalayan landscapes, Matteo offers an engaged approach to ancient wisdom traditions. His books include Breathe How You Want to Feel: Your Breathing Tool Kit for Better Health, Restorative Sleep, and Deeper Connection; Meditation: Coming to Know Your Mind; and In the Shadow of the Buddha: One Man’s Journey of Spiritual Discovery & Political Danger in Tibet, among others. Alejandro Chaoul bio photoAlejandro Chaoul, Ph.D. (host) serves as director of research for Ligmincha International. He has studied in the Tibetan traditions since 1989, and since 1991 in the Bön Tradition with Yongdzin Tenzin Namdak Rinpoche, His Holiness Lungtok Tenpai Nyima Rinpoche, and Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. He holds a Ph.D. in Tibetan religions from Rice University, and serves as the director of Tibetan Yoga Wellbeing and as the scholar and founding director of the Mind Body Spirit Institute at the Jung Center of Houston. For the last 25 years he has been teaching and researching the benefits of Tibetan mind-body practices for people touched by cancer. He is a Contemplative Fellow at the Mind & Life Institute, and is the author of Chöd Practice in the Bön Tradition (Snow Lion, 2009), Tibetan Yoga for Health & Well-Being (Hay House, 2018), and Tibetan Yoga: Magical Movements of Body, Breath, and Mind (Wisdom Publications, 2021).
